Also referred to by the colloquial expression “registering a building,” cadastral operations consist in identifying and officializing the separation, expansion, or merging of properties by assigning each property a separate lot number. Its length, area, shape and position in relation to neighbouring properties are also represented. This renumbering is then registered in the Cadastre du Québec, the provincial land register, which legally protects property deeds and is used for property appraisals.
